Thumbprint Cookies

This thumbprint cookie recipe makes 4 dozen thumbprint cookies.

1 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 egg whites
1 - 1 1/2 cups finely chopped nuts.

Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla thoroughly.

Sift flour and salt together and stir in.

Cool.
Divide dough into 24 equal pieces.

Roll into balls.

Dip in slightly beaten egg whites.

Roll in nuts and place on baking sheet.

Bake at 375F for 5 mins.

Remove from oven and press with thumb.

Bake 8 minutes more.

Put colored icing in thumbprints.
