Not rated yet To obtain the best value when buying ground beef always purchase the grade of ground beef or amount of fat content that suits the recipe you are making. If the recipe you're preparing allows you to drain of excess fat, then you can use a grade of 70% to 75% lean ground beef. This grade of ground beef will shrink more than the others, so plan accordingly. You can use 75% to 80% lean ground beef in recipes that you don't want to be greasy. This grade of ground beef is excellent for grilled burgers as the meat is still moist enough to bind, has moderate shrinkage and isn't too greasy for the bbq. The 80 to 85 percent lean ground beef is excellent for low-calorie diets but because it's less moist than other grades, it's best to add something to the recipe to provide juciness.
