Hungarian Goulash Recipe

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 pounds beef chuck or round, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 small clove garlic (minced)
  • 3/4 cup catsup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespooon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • dash cayenne red pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 cups hot cooked noodles
Melt shortening in large skillet. Add beef, onions, and garlic; cook and stir until meat is brown and onion is tender. Stir in catsup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, paprika, mustard, cayenne and 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and simmer for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

Blend flour and 1/4 cup water and gradually stir into mixture. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir for one minute. Serve over noodles.

This goulash recipe will serve 6 to 8 persons.

Goulash Recipe

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 bud minced garlic
  • 1 12 ounce box spaghetti
  • 1 large can tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
Cook spaghetti and drain. Saute meat, onion and garlic in butter. Add tomatoes and spaghetti. Simmer for 10 minutes. Serve with garlic toast.

This goulash recipe will serve six.

Hungarian Goulash Recipe

  • 2 - 2 1/2 pounds stewing beef
  • 1 green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1 or 2 tomatoes (or 1 16 ounce can)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup water
  • 1 pkg. brown gravy mix
  • noodles or potatoes
Season meat with salt and pepper, garlic if desired. Brown meat in large skillet. Add tomatoes and onion, cut in large pieces. Add small amount of water. Cook 2 - 3 hours. Add water as needed. Watch carefully so it does not stick and burn. 10 minutes before serving, mix the gravy mix with 1 cup of water and add to meat sauce. Let simmer until ready to serve.

Cook noodles and drain. Serve meat and noodles in seperate bowls.

This goulash recipe will serve 4 - 5.

Goulash Recipe

  • 4 ounces fine noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups sliced celery
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 2 1/2 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 1 can (14 1/2 ounces) tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Cook noodles according to instructions. While noodles cook, cook and stir ground beef and onion in a large skillet until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat.

Stir in drained noodles, celery, catsup, mushrooms, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 30 to 45 minutes.

This goulash recipe will serve 4.

Hungarian Goulash Soup

  • 1 pound lean stewing beef
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large onions (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 2 cups sliced carrots
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons flour
Cut beef into cubes. Melt butter in saucepan. Saute onions until golden. Stir in paprika. Add bouillon cubes, water, salt, caraway seeds and beef. Cover, simmer over low heat approx. 45 minutes. Add carrots, cook 15 minutes or until meat and carrots are tender. Combine milk and flour. Stir into meat mixture. Cook over medium heat until thickened and comes to a boil.
